Urgent! Need help - I told my parents.
by filip inwe have just gotten home from sunday-meeting, when my mom ask me if i believe in god and so on.
so i tell her, cause you adviced me to be honest.
and despite all my fears, she took it very calm, and then told my dad whos also taking it calm, and it doesnt seem like theyre hating me now or want to throw me out of the house.. the thing is.

Annie ... believe it or not, I do really see your side of this picture. There are no absolutes when it comes to raising children. Everyone can only do the best they know. As for you regreting the last thirty years ... did some good come out of it?
I know people who've never been witnesses who regret many things in their past. Again, we can't change the past but hopefully we've learned something from it. Did you know there are no Norman Rockwell lives? If you hadn't been a witness all those years ... who knows ... your life may be worse now. Best to get on with life and try for a better future .. eh?

144001 ... you've obviously got bigger problems than can be addressed here. Sorry I got your feathers ruffled.

Incense and Peppermints ... what a great post. I agree with it totally!
Did you know that children who are taught to lovingly obey will have all those attributes?

AlmostAthiest: you and I agree on most points. Thank you for your candor.
15 year olds, as far as I am concerned are asked in the door-to-door if they are allowed to choose their own reading material.
While filip is old enough to decide on his own spiritual beliefs, he must obey his parents untill he can physically support himself.

144001: show me your documented research please.
I'm sorry your look back on your chilhood so badly. Mine was similar and my memories are terrific.
You know absolutely nothing about me to tell me I have a mental weakness. While I may think that about you, it would be very bad manners to tell you.

SixofNine ... would you recommend the same thing if his parents were Jewish or Muslim? Or is your attitude 'slanted' by your past? Believe me ... there are lots worse parents out there. In this enlightened age of 'having all the answers' without the scriptures gets people a lot further ... yeah right!

The continuing saga of being in love with a Witness
by starcrossedpimp ini don't know how many read my prior post "problems with jw girlfriend and her family", but i feel the need to continue the story as it is very current and is taking quite a toll on both of us.
she and i also work together at a grocery store, so even if she does/did decide to break things off (because of her parents and the religion) we would still see each other (i'll get to this in a minute).
we both know that we still love each other and that we deserve to be together, but can this religion be stronger than true love?????

starcrossedpimp: what a name!
It sounds like you and your gf really do love each other. Can you be the bigger person and let go? It will save you both mountains of problems in the future. She probably wouldn't agree now but someday she will realize it's for the best. Ever try mixing water and oil? That will be what your future with her will be like. Believe it or not ... there is another girl out there more suited to you ... and you deserve to be happy :)

SixofNine: and your point is???
filip is a child who found his way to this adult site ... notice the change in his language since he got here? I wouldn't feel too proud to be a part of that. Quoting scriptures is something you scoff at ... what do you recommend? That he disrespect his parents ... that would be the opposite.

Tammy ... how did any of us survive this long without ' qualified therapists' ?
A little common sense would go a long way ... funny, looking back, how a few bumps along the way make us see how important family is?
Ephesians 6:1,2,3 "Children, be obedient to YOUR parents in union with the Lord, for this is righteous: 2 "Honor your father and your mother, which is the first command with a promise. 3 "That it may go well with you and you may endure a long time on the earth."
Someone could well point out verse four to filip's father, but we are addressing filip here.
DY: You do have a way with words.
